Founded in 1751, Tsubame Bussan is Japan's first specialized manufacturer of metal cutlery. We began as merchants dealing with metal products in the Tsubame-Sanjo region during the Edo period. In 1911, with the arrival of Western dining culture, we transitioned into a specialized metal cutlery manufacturer. The first 36 sets of cutlery we produced marked the beginning of metal cutlery manufacturing in Tsubame City.
Today, over 85% of domestically produced cutlery is made in Tsubame-Sanjo. The production of cutlery, which cannot be fully mechanized and requires intricate skills, relies on the expertise of craftsmen. For many years, our seasoned artisans have passed down their skills to the next generation, with half of our employees in their 20s and 30s. We will continue to preserve this craftsmanship and produce metal cutlery loved by all. In addition to factory tours, we have a special retail section prepared for your visit.
